Meet The Mamas

Heather Wood
My husband, Jason, and I were both born and raised right here in Montana where we are now fortunate enough to be raising our family!  After high school, I attended Montana State University where I earned my Bachelor's in Education.  While completing my degree, I lived in New Zealand where I finished my student teaching.  Once home, I began dating my best friend of seven years; returned to college to get my Reading Endorsement; and began applying for teaching jobs while substituting.  I was blessed to receive a job offer in Big Sky, MT where I became Athletic Director and taught K-8 Physical Education, 3-5 Reading; and Kindergarten.  On February 26, 2005 I married the love of my life!  I continued teaching until the birth of our first son, Brady, in 2006.  At that time, God had blessed Jason with a successful and growing business, so we made the decision for me to resign from teaching to stay at home with our son and work on our business.  Then, in 2010 we had our second son, Sam.  My boys are the light of my life!
In addition to staying home with my boys and running our businesses, I homeschool Brady.  Homeschooling is absolutely the LAST thing I ever thought I would be doing!  After all, I was a Public School teacher!  Again, God had a different plan for my life!  I love that I have had the privilege to hear Brady read his first word, sentence and book; to be the one who got to hear him count to 100 by ones and tens for the first time; and to be the one to see my child glow when he has accomplished something!  The path I saw for myself when I was younger and the path that God has paved for me and guided me on are different, but the path that God made for me is SO much better!
The only way that I can describe Evan and I becoming the sister-like friends that we have become is to say that she came careening into my life like an asteroid!  Try as I might, there was no running!  Honestly though, I have no idea what I would do without her in my world and my family's world.  Her family is our family.  My kids refer to her and her husband as Aunt and Uncle.  Everyone should have an Evan!
It is my hope that somewhere on this blog you take something away that makes you feel good!

Evan Westra
Hi there,  I'm so excited to share a little piece of my family life with all of you!  I moved from the Cascade Mountains of Oregon to the Rocky Mountains of Montana when I was ten.  At sixteen I met and started dating my future husband.  Now I'm 30 and my Cowboy and I have been married for 11 years.  In 2002 God blessed us with our daughter Isabel.  In 2004 came Ruby, followed by Dillon in 2006.  You will often hear me refer to Ruby and Dillon as the twins.  In 2008 we decided we weren't quite done growing our family. We were tremendously blessed through the gift of adoption bringing our son Finn home from Ethiopia in June 2010.  Soon Lord willing, I will be the proud mother of seven children, adding two daughters and a son brought to us once again through adoption.  This time from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Let's face it, Motherhood can be pretty wild, crazy, and at times just plain gross! Here on the Westra Farm we embrace the mess.  What else are we going to do?  "Life," is after all "what happens while you are busy making other plans!"
While the Cowboy is away at work(we own a water well drilling business)I am normally standing at the chalkboard while wearing my pajamas teaching the kids.  Homeschooling is something I never thought I would do!  And now look at me, I have corrupted others(Heather)into following my lead.  Really it's a win win.  The kids are educated and I'm in my sweats.  What more could I ask for?  In all seriousness I love teaching my kids!  I love the one on one time watching them grow and discover the world around them.  After all the books are put away you can normally find me and the kids in the kitchen whipping up something yummy for one of our super fun afternoon tea parties or making dinner plans.  I believe with all my heart that teaching my kids their way around a kitchen is very important!  The memories alone are worth all the messes we make!
Somewhere along my way through all this craziness Heather came along! God destined us to be the best of friends.  We actually went to high school together but never met until we were both married and starting our families.  I love her like a sister, count on our daily phone calls(notice the plural), and love her kids as if they were my own.  There is just something sublimely wonderful about having a best girl friend!  I hope you all can handle all the goofiness we are about to send your way!  There, I warned you-you can't complain later on!
Stay tuned you're in for a treat!
And remember, we love comments!
